The Kenya Red Cross needed a reliable, sustainable source of income. They already ran a small guest house successfully, so they decided go for it and build a luxury hotel. I helped them create the hotel brand, The Boma, around the idea of 'hospitality with a conscience', working on strategy, copy and creative direction. The Boma has since been very successful in attracting ecotourists and business travellers visiting Nairobi's many NGOs and the UN's Africa headquarters.
The name 'Boma' came from the traditional African word meaning a community enclosure, often associated with community decision making. The circle in the logo represents that enclosure, as well as the brand's approach to doing business in a holistic, sustainable way that benefits the community.
